IN MEMORIAM

Professor Ernest G. Clarke, 1927-1997

It is with great sorrow that the editors of the Newsletter announce the death of Ernest Clarke, founding President of the International Organization for Targumic Study, former Editor of the Newsletter, scholar, colleague, and friend. He died on Sunday, November 23.

The Newsletter would like to announce that it has taken a step towards joining the international financial community. In other words, subscribers can now charge their subscription to their VISA or MasterCard. There will be a service fee for each subscription of $0.50 (USA). For more information, please see the enclosed renewal form.

The proposed Journal for the Aramaic Bible is steadily moving towards reality. Two presses have put forward solid offers and the members of the Editorial Board are now evaluating them. There will be an official announcement of the journal at the IOTS meeting this summer, with the first issue appearing in January of 1999. Please direct any inquiries to the Editor in Chief, Professor Johannes de Moor, at the address below.

Fellowships at Kampen, The Netherlands: For each year from 1997 to 2000, two PhD/DD students and/or postdoctoral fellows will receive an opportunity to join the team working on the Targum of the Prophets at Kampen, The Netherlands. Interested parties are invited to send in an application with a curriculum vitae, a description of their research proposal, and two recommendations (under separate cover) to:
